There is also no lack of patriotism in the youth of Jammu and Kashmir affected by terrorism. The percentage of youth recruited in the army is increasing rapidly. According to the Ministry of Defense, recruitment of youth from Kashmir has increased by 88% during the last three years. This is the highest after Himachal Pradesh.
In Jammu and Kashmir, 1954 youth were admitted to the army during the year 2016-17 but the latest figures for 2018-19 show that this number increased to 3672. Within just three years, this increase is close to 88 percent. If there is more increase in this state then it is Himachal Pradesh. In Himachal, the number has increased from 2172 to 4202, an increase of about 93 percent. The Army also encourages youth in Kashmir to pursue a career in the Army. Special recruitment operations are conducted by the Army from time to time.
Number Decreased in Majority of States
Defense Ministry figures is worrying in most states as the number of army recruits is decreasing in most states. In Bihar the above period this number decreased from 2932 to 2199. In Delhi, it was reduced from 798 to 167. 2281 to 865 in Madhya Pradesh, 2116 to 1471 in West Bengal. Similarly, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Kerala, Odisha and Rajasthan have also reduced the number of young people recruited in the army.
Recruitment of Nepali Youth Increased
Indian Army recruits Nepali youth. Recruitment of Nepal’s youth has increased in the army. This number has been increased from 1724 to 2502. Other states that have increased their share are Telangana, Karnataka and Punjab besides Hipr, Kashmir.
UP and Uttarakhand Statistics Remains Same
According to the earlier figures of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the share of many states including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand remains almost the same as before. 6322 from Uttar Pradesh, 3222 from Uttarakhand, 663 from Jharkhand, 3210 youngsters from Haryana were recruited in the army. The situation remains the same in many states including Maharashtra, Nagaland, Meghalaya.
