The 2007 Bollywood superhit hit film Chak De India was inspired by her victory in India.

Arjun Awardi and former India women’s hockey captain Suraj Lata Devi have lodged complaints against her husband for domestic violence, physical harassment and mental torture. She has alleged that her husband beat her badly for dowry. In a press conference, Suraj Lata said that since her marriage in 2005, her husband has been continuously harassing her for dowry. She said that her husband and former employee of Western Railway Mumbai tied her up and beat her up for about three hours.

The former Indian captain said that when she brought her medals and photos after marriage, Santa Kumar cried out how she benefited. The husband also accused her of winning the Arjuna Award due to unethical conduct. Suraj Lata, the mother of two, said that in November 2019, after being drunk in Kapurthala, she decided to lodge a complaint when her husband allegedly beat her. She was the match official in the tournament organized by the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, Punjab.

Charge of demanding land

The former Indian captain has alleged that land is being demanded from him and this demand arose in November last year. She said that her husband also asked her to take retirement from the office of the Office Superintendent of the Western Railway on her own will. Suraj Lata said that she was tolerating this harassment of her husband with the belief that their behavior would change one day. According to him, she never wanted to make the matter public. The former Indian captain said that but there is a limit to bear and tolerate anything.

Chak De India is inspired by the 2002 victory
