The announcement comes at a time when it faces increasing scrutiny of regulation on the type of content published on its platform, specifically items that reflect extreme ideologies and false news.

Facebook Inc said Wednesday 16-F that it will ban ads that refer to any cure or prevention of the outbreak of coronavirus and also those that create a sense of urgency around the situation.

Coronavirus disease, believed to have originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of last year, has killed more than 2,700 people.

The announcement of the social media giant comes at a time when it faces increasing scrutiny of regulation on the type of content published on its platform, specifically items that reflect extreme ideologies and false news.

Last month, Facebook said it would remove content about the virus “with false awards or conspiracy theories that have been pointed out by major global health organizations and local health authorities,” joining companies such as TikTok and Pinterest.
