Maharajganj. Divyang Jagarnath Upadhyay, a resident of village Shitalapur, who killed himself by setting self on fire after being beaten by the police, died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Gorakhpur Medical College. The deceased’s brother Amarnath has alleged that in a minor dispute with the neighbor, the police had brought him to the police station, where he was beaten up by the shoe. Hurt by this, he put petrol and set himself on fire. Jagarnath, who was 90 percent scorched, was admitted to the district hospital. From where he was referred to Gorakhpur Medical College in view of his serious condition. However, he could not be saved.
The SP ordered the inquiry
Inspector Bihagad Singh, in-charge of the police station, says that Divyang was summoned to the police station and explained only. The charge of assault is baseless. Right there, the police Superintendent Rohit Singh Sajwan says that the entire matter is being investigated. If the beating comes true, action will be taken against the guilty.
Fire in the evening
Divyang’s brother Amarnath Upadhyay told that Jagarnath (24) had a fight with a woman in the neighborhood on Monday morning. The woman had filed a complaint in the police station alleging assault. Police called Jagarnath and beat him up in the afternoon. It is alleged that a policeman beat him with a shoe. Divyang was greatly hurt by this incident. On reaching home at around seven in the evening, he put petrol on him and set on fire.
